Terms of Service

Effective October 4, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and RecipeLedger ("RecipeLedger", "we", "us") for using the RecipeLedger app and website at recipeledger.pro (the "Service"). By signing in or using the Service, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

1. The Service

RecipeLedger helps households save recipes with version history, scan recipes with AI, plan meals, and build shopping lists. It's intended for personal, non-commercial household use. Features may change, be added, or be removed over time, and the Service may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance or reasons outside our control.

2. Accounts and households

3. Your content

You own what you add — recipes, photos, notes, plans, reviews, and posts ("your content"). We don't claim ownership of it.

So that we can run the Service, you give RecipeLedger a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, copy, process, and display your content only to operate and improve the Service for you — for example, to show it to your household, send it to the AI or shopping services when you use those features, and show content you've made public to other users. This license ends when your content is deleted, except for content others have already forked from what you published (see section 4).

You're responsible for your content, and you confirm you have the right to add it. Recipes themselves (lists of ingredients and basic steps) generally can't be owned, but photos and written descriptions can be — don't upload other people's photos, or copy cookbook or website text, without permission.

4. Public sharing

When you publish a recipe or set a blog post to public, other signed-in RecipeLedger users can see it with your display name, rate and review it, and fork a published recipe into their own recipe box. A fork is an independent copy: it stays with them even if you later edit, unpublish, or delete your original. Only publish what you're comfortable sharing that way.

5. Acceptable use

Don't use the Service to:

We may remove content or limit access that violates these terms.

6. AI features

The recipe scanner and the assistant are powered by Anthropic's Claude. AI can misread handwriting, get amounts or units wrong, or give incorrect answers. Always review what the AI fills in or suggests before relying on it. The assistant can create and edit things in your recipe box and meal plan when you ask it to (it cannot delete anything), and you're responsible for changes you ask it to make.

7. Food safety and allergens

RecipeLedger is a tool for organizing recipes — it doesn't check recipes for safety, nutrition, or allergens. Recipes come from you, your household, other users, and AI scanning, and any of them can contain mistakes. Use your own judgment: check ingredients for allergies and dietary needs, follow safe food-handling practices, and cook foods to safe temperatures. Nothing in the Service is medical or nutritional advice.

8. Prices, stores, and shopping

9. Third-party services

The Service connects to Google (sign-in and Drive), Anthropic, Kroger, and Instacart. Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We're not responsible for their availability, accuracy, or actions, and a feature may stop working if a provider changes or ends its service.

10. Ending your use

You can stop using RecipeLedger at any time, and delete your account yourself in Settings (or ask us to) as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or end access for anyone who seriously or repeatedly violates these terms, or if we need to for legal reasons. If we ever shut the Service down, we'll give reasonable advance notice where we can so you can save your recipes.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don't promise the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost — keep your own copies of anything you can't afford to lose.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, RecipeLedger and its operator won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or harm arising from food prepared using the Service, related to your use of it. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US $50. Some places don't allow certain limits on liability, so some of these may not apply to you.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Wisconsin, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.

14. Changes

We may update these terms as the Service changes. We'll update the effective date above, and for significant changes we'll let users know in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

15. Contact

Questions about these terms: contact the app's administrator.
